SEOUL-- The local organizers of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games to be held in South Korea's PyeongChang found a new and possibly the strongest ally Monday as President Moon Jae-in himself agreed to help promote and host the world's largest winter sporting event.

The South Korean president accepted the job as an honorary ambassador for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in a ceremony held in the host county, located some 180 kilometers east of Seoul in Gangwon Province.

The ceremony came 200 days before the 17-day event will kick start on Feb. 9. It involved some 300 officials from the local organizing committee, as well as government officials and many famous athletes, including former Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na, who too is an honorary ambassador for the PyeongChang Games.

Kim, the former skating champion, presented Moon with new business cards describing his newest title.
