WASHINGTON-- The United States hopes to negotiate amendments to its free trade agreement with South Korea, Washington's top trade official was quoted as saying Tuesday, as President Donald Trump weighed a withdrawal from the deal.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer made the remark to reporters in Mexico City, where he held talks on renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement, reporter said.

Trump said he would meet with his advisers this week to consider pulling out of the pact. He has called it "horrible" and blamed it for the U.S. trade deficit with South Korea.
