Police to be Dispatched to Oman, Dubai to Assist South Korean Nationals Amid Escalating Conflict

Seoul: Police said Thursday it will send personnel to Oman and Dubai this week to help South Korean nationals leave the Middle East as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran has broadened.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the National Police Agency announced it will dispatch three officers to each of the two Gulf region hubs early Friday to assist those stranded return home as the conflict between U.S.-Israeli forces and Iran has expanded to impact neighboring countries.

The decision follows an interagency meeting held by the government on Wednesday to discuss response measures to the situation in the Middle East. This includes the potential deployment of chartered planes or military aircraft to facilitate the return of South Korean nationals.

A senior foreign ministry official mentioned on Monday that approximately 17,000 South Korean nationals are currently in about 10 Middle Eastern countries involved in the conflict. This figure excludes short-term travelers.
