Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Repatriated Drug Trafficker

Uijeongbu: A local court has issued an arrest warrant for a notorious drug trafficker, Park Wang-yeol, who was recently repatriated from the Philippines. The Uijeongbu District Court cited concerns over potential flight risk and the possibility of evidence destruction as reasons for granting the warrant.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Park, who faces charges of smuggling methamphetamine and other drugs into South Korea, arrived in the country handcuffed on Wednesday. His return was facilitated through a temporary repatriation under an extradition treaty between South Korea and the Philippines. Park, aged 48, had been serving a 60-year prison sentence in the Philippines for the murders of three South Koreans.

During police interrogation, Park confessed to using methamphetamine, a claim supported by a positive drug test, as reported by the Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police. Authorities have already apprehended 236 suspects linked to Park's smuggling operations, including 42 members of his organization and various drug buyers.

The investigation into Park's activities is set to continue while he remains in custody, focusing on uncovering additional drug-related crimes. In an effort to inform the public, police have released Park's identity and mug shot, following a decision by the deliberation committee. His name, date of birth, and photo will be accessible on the police website for a month.
