Hwaseong: Police on Tuesday raided a plating factory in Hwaseong, south of Seoul, where the owner allegedly fired an air gun at a foreign worker about two months ago, causing severe internal injuries.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency dispatched 20 investigators to the factory in Hwaseong's Hyangnam district, located 60 kilometers south of the capital. The raid focused on seizing materials related to the air gun incident, including the owner's phone and computers.
The incident reportedly occurred on February 20, when the factory owner, a man in his 60s, allegedly used an industrial air gun against a Thai worker in his 40s who was cleaning at the factory. The assault led to the worker suffering from abdominal swelling and internal organ damage, necessitating surgery. The victim continues to receive medical treatment. The owner has since claimed that the act was not intentional and was meant as a prank.
A dedicated investigation team was formed by the police last week due to the severity of the incident, and they have been examining two air guns believed to have been involved in the assault.
In the aftermath of the raid, the National Forensic Service carried out an on-site inspection at the factory. The police intend to summon the factory owner as a criminal suspect once they complete the analysis of the seized materials.
