President Lee Jae Myung met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung in Hanoi on Thursday, committing to strengthen cooperation in nuclear energy, infrastructure, and broader energy sectors. Lee emphasized South Korea's intention to act as a "reliable partner" in aiding Vietnam's ambitions to evolve into a modern industrialized nation by 2030 and achieve a high-income, developed status by 2045.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee outlined South Korea's strategic plan to bolster collaboration with Vietnam in nuclear energy, transportation infrastructure, and the energy sector. He expressed a vision of creating the "miracle of the Hong River," drawing from South Korea's own experience of rapid economic development fueled by significant investments in nuclear power, transportation networks, and transparent financial practices. Lee voiced optimism that such partnerships would underpin Vietnam's sustained economic growth.

Prime Minister Hung remar ked that President Lee's visit would invigorate bilateral relations, expressing eagerness for enhanced cooperation with Seoul to support Vietnam's long-term economic aspirations. This meeting followed Lee's summit with Vietnam's top leader, To Lam, the day before. During this summit, the leaders concurred on expanding cooperation across various sectors, including supply chains, infrastructure, and energy.

In addition to meeting with Hung, President Lee also engaged with Vietnam's National Assembly Chairman, Tran Thanh Man. Lee sought the legislature's backing to fortify Seoul-Hanoi relations and improve the business environment for Korean enterprises operating in Vietnam. He expressed hope that the discussions would promote legislative exchanges to bolster bilateral cooperation.
