Gunsan: A U.S. Marine unit based in Japan has showcased its aviation ground support and logistics capabilities during a readiness evaluation session, aimed at strengthening interoperability with South Korean Marines, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command announced recently.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Marine Wing Support Squadron 174, part of the III Marine Expeditionary Force stationed in Japan, conducted a comprehensive combat readiness assessment with South Korean forces from March 14 to April 19. This was part of the annual Korean Marine Exercise Program (KMEP) exercise.
Throughout the training, U.S. Marine forces collaborated with South Korean Marines to set up mobile sites for quick refueling and rearming of aircraft in challenging environments. Additionally, the U.S. Marines conducted rigorous firefighting drills at Kunsan Air Base, located in the southwestern city of Gunsan, to practice coordinated responses to simulated emergencies.
Moreover, the joint forces participated in a detailed mass casualty exercise to evaluate the troops' ability to perform immediate medical triage and evacuation under simulated combat conditions, as detailed in the release.
