Trump Hails ‘Fantastic’ Trade Deals with China During Summit with Xi

Beijing: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington and Beijing have reached "fantastic" trade agreements during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The meeting marked the second and final day of bilateral discussions between the two leaders.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump made these remarks during a meeting with Xi at Zhongnanhai, the central complex of China's top leadership. This venue holds historical significance as it is where former U.S. President Richard Nixon met with Chinese leader Mao Zedong in 1972, paving the way for Sino-U.S. detente. Trump expressed optimism about the outcomes of his visit, highlighting deals involving U.S. exports such as soybeans, oil, liquefied natural gas, and Boeing jets.

In addition to trade, Trump and Xi discussed their shared stance on Iran, emphasizing their mutual desire to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for energy shipments. Trump noted the strong relationship between the U.S. and China, stating that he and Xi had resolved numerous issues during their discussions.

The summit was attended by key U.S. officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, among others. Notably, prominent American entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, Tim Cook, and David Solomon were also part of Trump's entourage.

Trump's visit to China, which began on Wednesday, is his first since November 2017. The summit is the first in a series of potential bilateral meetings between Trump and Xi, with future talks possibly occurring during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen and the Group of 20 gathering in Florida later this year. During Thursday's session, Trump extended an invitation to Xi and Chinese first lady Peng Liyuan to visit the White House in September.
