Lee Calls Local Election Results a ‘Warning from the People’, Stresses Need for Policy Consistency

Seoul: Lee has expressed that the recent local election results serve as a 'warning from the people', yet he insists that the government's policy direction will remain unchanged.

According to Yonhap News Agency, several major South Korean newspapers highlighted Lee's interpretation of the election outcome, with multiple publications, including Kyunghyang Shinmun, Kookmin Daily, and Hankyoreh, reporting Lee's statement on the matter.

The local elections have prompted Lee to address various issues, including real estate tax reforms, which are set to be introduced next month. Donga Ilbo reported on Lee's commitment to implementing these changes. Moreover, Lee emphasized that any special counsel probe concerning a fabricated indictment should pose no problem if conducted lawfully, as noted by Seoul Shinmun and Segye Times.

In addition to the election results, Lee pointed to the need for South Korea's property tax to align with levels observed in advanced countries. This sentiment was reported by Maeil Business Newspaper. Furthermore, Lee warned that foreign companies might cease investing in South Korea if the government imposes additional taxes on increased corporate profits, a concern raised in Korea Economic Daily.

The election results have also drawn attention from English-language dailies, with Korea JoongAng Daily echoing Lee's description of the election as a 'warning from the people'. Meanwhile, Korea Times reported the President's call for a careful approach to sharing corporate gains, and Korea Herald highlighted Lee's demand for fundamental fixes following a ballot shortage incident.
