SEJONG, South Korean households spent an average of 2.53 million won (US$2,180) per month in 2018, down 0.8 percent from a year earlier, data showed Thursday.

Expenditures on groceries and nonalcoholic beverages came to 366,000 won, accounting for 14.4 percent of the total, according to the data compiled by Statistics Korea.

The data also showed that spending on food and accommodation was tallied at 349,000 won and that transportation-related expenditures came to 348,000 won.

Expenditures by four-member households averaged 3.81 million won, while the figure for single-member households reached 1.42 million won last year, according to Statistics Korea.
