SUWON – Former Justice Minister Cho Kuk was reelected as the leader of the minor Rebuilding Korea Party during a party convention held on Saturday, with a nearly unanimous approval rating from party members.
According to Yonhap News Agency, who was the only candidate in the running, received 99.9 percent of the votes from party members. The Rebuilding Korea Party, which Cho founded in March just before the April general elections, has been under his leadership since its inception, except for a brief period this month when he resigned to seek reelection. Under his leadership, the party secured 12 seats in the parliamentary elections.
Cho has been a vocal critic of current President Yoon Suk Yeol, accusing him of incompetence and various wrongdoings. During his speech at the convention, Cho promised to expose the alleged failings of the Yoon administration and to illustrate what he perceives as the end of “the prosecution dictatorship.”
This re-election comes as a significant step for Cho, who previously served in the government under former President Moon Jae-in but faced a downturn in his political career due to several corruption scandals involving his family.
