Duksung Women’s University held a “sleep contest” Friday to provide rest to collegians fatigued from mid-term exams.

The contest awarded 50,000 won to the participant that fell into the deepest sleep.

Contestants, who were provided blankets, sleep shades and pillows, slept on mats on the lawn on campus.

A six-stage sleeping test was conducted in five minutes after the contestants were told to go to sleep. Organizers blew into participants’ faces and told jokes to determine how fast they had fallen asleep.

Members of Love Recipe, a community on Facebook, organized the event.

“We attempted to suggest that rather than go to clubs after mid-terms, students take naps to heal their mind and body,” they said.

The napping contest is the first of its kind in Korea, organizers said.
