The father of a young man killed during the shooting rampage near the University of California, Santa Barbara Southern California last week has blamed the National Rifle Association (NRA) and politicians for his death in an emotional press conference.

His son, Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez was one of the six people killed by suspect Elliot Rodger, 22.

During the press conference, Richard Martinez read a statement on behalf of the family.

“Our family has a message for every parent out there,” he said. “You don’t think it’ll happen to you child until it does.

“Chris was a really great kid. Ask anyone who knew him His death has left our family lost and broken.

In the press conference outside a police station, Martinez slammed the NRA. “Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA,” Martinez continued. “They talk about gun rights. What about Chris’ right to live? When will this insanity stop? When will enough people say, ‘Stop this madness?’

“Too many have died. We should say to ourselves, ‘Nothelliponehellipmore. ‘”

Martinez has said he spoke with his son about 45 minutes before he was shot.
