Doctors Accuse South Korean Health Minister of Overstepping Authority

SEOUL – A coalition of South Korean doctors has lodged a formal complaint against Health Minister Cho Kyoo-hong and his deputy, alleging they abused their power in a dispute over medical education policies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, ” the complaint was submitted to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), pinpointing the contentious directive that compelled interns and resident physicians to resume duties amid protests against an increase in medical school admissions. The doctors assert that Minister Cho and Vice Minister Park Min-soo overreached by legally mandating medical trainees to abandon their collective resignation, an act they believe infringes on the doctors’ rights. The government, however, defends its stance, citing legal provisions that permit such interventions during critical threats to public health.
