DP to Meet Business Leaders Over Middle East Crisis

Seoul: The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) announced plans to meet with business leaders this week to address potential repercussions from the recent U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting, which is set for Thursday, will include DP lawmakers from parliamentary committees on foreign affairs, trade, and finance. Representatives from prominent organizations such as the Federation of Korean Industries, the Korea International Trade Association, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency will also be present. Senior executives from leading exporters and energy companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK, Hyundai Motor, LG, Hanwha Ocean, and GS Caltex, are expected to attend the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting involves discussions with business leaders about the current situation in the Middle East post-strikes and addressing industry grievances concerning the government's ongoing tariff negotiations with Washington. The meeting comes at a critical time, as on Wednesday, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index experienced its steepest one-day decline on record, plummeting 12.06 percent to close at 5,093.54.
