Earthquake Detected off Jeju Island, No Damage Reported

SEOUL — An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 was reported in the waters off Jeju Island on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The seismic event occurred at 5:36 p.m., approximately 62 kilometers northeast of Ieodo, a submerged rock formation south of Jeju Island, which lies about 450 kilometers south of Seoul. The earthquake's epicenter was pinpointed at a depth of 13 kilometers.

This incident is noted as the most significant seismic activity to affect the Korean Peninsula and its adjacent waters since a 4.0-magnitude earthquake hit the southeastern city of Gyeongju on November 30. Despite the earthquake's strength, the KMA has indicated that it is not expected to result in any damage.
