Ex-President Moon Advocates for Diplomatic Solutions in U.S.-Iran Conflict

Los angeles: Former President Moon Jae-in called for minimizing the use of force and making efforts for a diplomatic solution in the U.S.-Iran conflict during his visit to the United States on Thursday. Moon, who led South Korea from 2017 to 2022, made the call at a dinner event hosted by the nonprofit Pacific Century Institute in Los Angeles in his first overseas trip since leaving office.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Moon addressed the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, emphasizing that the use of force leads to a cycle of hatred and revenge. He urged against military actions and advocated for resolving the conflict through diplomatic and peaceful means. During his speech, he also expressed concern over global extremism, highlighting that peace achieved through dialogue and cooperation is essential in an era marked by rising tensions and confrontations.

Moon's visit was organized at the invitation of the U.S. think tank RAND Corp. and the Pacific Century Institute. As part of his itinerary, he is set to participate in a roundtable discussion with security experts at RAND on Friday, where he will discuss inter-Korean relations and the broader international order.
