Foreign Ministers of South Korea and Egypt Discuss Israel-Hamas Conflict Over Phone

SEOUL: South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin engaged in phone discussions with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry concerning the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to an official statement released by Park's office on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, both ministers agreed that the situation must not escalate further. They called for an immediate "humanitarian pause" to prevent the crisis from worsening. Park acknowledged Egypt's active role in mediation and its decision to allow the delivery of relief items to the Gaza Strip through its borders.

The conversation with Shoukry is a continuation of a series of communications Park has had with Middle Eastern counterparts on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The discussion took place on Monday local time in Istanbul, where Park was in transit to Turkmenistan for a forum between South Korea and Central Asian nations.
