Former South Korean Officials Indicted for Housing Data Manipulation

Daejeon - The Daejeon District Prosecutors Office has indicted eleven former officials of the Moon Jae-in administration, including top presidential aides and the former Land Minister, on charges of manipulating housing price data.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The officials are accused of pressuring the Korea Real Estate Board to alter housing price fluctuation rates to falsely reflect the success of government policies. This alleged manipulation, which misrepresented housing price increases in Seoul, constitutes violations of the Statistics Act and abuse of authority. The case marks a significant breach of national statistics' accuracy and neutrality, prompting calls for revisions to the Statistics Act to prevent future abuses of power and ensure the integrity of government data.
