Giants’ Lee Jung-hoo Struggles in Hitless Opening Day Against Yankees

San francisco: Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants has opened his third season in the majors with a hitless performance at home. Batting fifth and playing right field, Lee went 0-for-4 as the Giants fell to the New York Yankees 7-0 at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Wednesday (local time).

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee grounded out against starter Max Fried with two outs and runners at the corners in the bottom of the first inning. He hit a flyout to center in the fourth inning and then led off the seventh inning by lining out to left. He hit into another lineout, this time to center field, in the ninth inning.

The Yankees put up a five-spot against starter Logan Webb in the top of the second en route to a breezy win, as they outhit the Giants 10-3. This was the only game of the first day of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. The two teams will have a day off Thursday and then play again Friday and Saturday to complete their three-game set.

Lee is the only South Korean player to be on an Opening Day roster for this season. Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves and Song Sung-mun of the San Diego Padres are injured, while Kim Hye-seong (Los Angeles Dodgers), Go Woo-suk (Detroit Tigers), and Bae Ji-hwan (New York Mets) are in the minor leagues for their respective clubs.
