Hanbit No. 5 Nuclear Reactor Resumes Operation in South Korea

SEOUL - South Korea's Hanbit No. 5 nuclear reactor, located in the southwestern county of Yeonggwang, resumed operations on Saturday after a 10-month maintenance period, as announced by the state-run Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 1,000 megawatt (MW) Hanbit No. 5 reactor will gradually ramp up to full capacity by Monday. The reactor had been offline for maintenance work since February 14 of this year. The resumption of operations followed comprehensive safety checks and a verification process conducted by an overseas expert agency, ensuring the reactor's safety.
