HD Korea Shipbuilding Secures $242 Million Contract for Ammonia Carriers

SEOUL – HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. announced it has received an order valued at 322.8 billion won ($242 million) to construct two very large ammonia carriers. This contract, placed by an African shipper, marks a significant achievement for the South Korean shipyard.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the construction of these vessels will be undertaken by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., one of HD Korea Shipbuilding’s three shipbuilding units, at its Ulsan shipyard in southeastern South Korea. The delivery of the ammonia carriers is scheduled for February 2027. This year, HD Korea Shipbuilding has secured contracts to build 40 vessels, totaling $4.77 billion, which represents 35.3 percent of its annual target of $13.5 billion. The company, a subsidiary of the HD Hyundai conglomerate, continues to reinforce its position in the global shipbuilding industry with a diverse portfolio of ship types under construction.
