HD Korea Shipbuilding Secures Major Order for Ammonia Carriers

SEOUL — In a significant business achievement, HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. announced on Monday that it has secured a substantial order.

According to Yonhap News Agency, valued at 491.1 billion won (approximately US$366 million), is for the construction of three very large ammonia carriers. These vessels are commissioned by a shipper based in Central and South America.

The construction of these carriers will be undertaken by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., one of the three shipbuilding units of HD Korea Shipbuilding. The work will take place at their shipyard located in the southeastern port of Ulsan, as detailed in a regulatory filing by the company. The completion and delivery of these ammonia carriers to the unnamed shipping company is scheduled for June 2028.

This year has been notably productive for HD Korea Shipbuilding. The company has already clinched orders to build 32 vessels, cumulatively valued at $3 billion. This achievement represents 22.2 percent of its annual target of $13.5 billion. HD Korea Shipbuilding operates as a subholding company of the HD Hyundai conglomerate, which encompasses shipbuilding, oil refining, and machinery sectors. Under its umbrella, the conglomerate includes HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.
