Hyundai and Nvidia Explore New Frontiers in AI and Mobility

Seoul: Nvidia Corp. and Hyundai Motor Group engaged in discussions on Monday to explore advancements in future mobility technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) as they aim to deepen their collaboration in cutting-edge technologies. The meeting took place at Hyundai's headquarters in southern Seoul, marking a significant step in their ongoing partnership.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed excitement about partnering with Hyundai in various AI domains, including mobility, robotics, and AI factories. He highlighted the significance of mobility and physical AI as the next major wave in AI development. During the discussions, Huang and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung explored ways to advance autonomous mobility technologies and enhance safety.

Chung acknowledged Nvidia as an "indispensable" partner and emphasized its crucial role in Hyundai Motor Group's collaborative efforts. He also briefed Huang on Hyundai's ambitious plan to transform the Saemangeum reclaimed land area in southwestern South Korea into a hub for AI, robotics, and hydrogen industries. The 9 trillion-won (US$5.87 billion) project aims to develop 1.12 million square meters of land, featuring an AI data center, a robotics manufacturing cluster, a water electrolysis plant, and solar power facilities.

Huang described the Saemangeum project as an "AI Valley," drawing a parallel with Silicon Valley in the United States. He noted that Chung extended an invitation for Nvidia to establish a presence in the area, emphasizing the potential of AI as a transformative technology for the region. Huang humorously mentioned his willingness to build Nvidia in Saemangeum, provided there's excellent barbecue pork.

The meeting formed part of Huang's high-profile visit to South Korea, where he has been engaging with leaders of major conglomerates and researchers to explore broader cooperation opportunities in AI and robotics.
