TOKYO, The Japanese government on Tuesday intensified its denial of the name "East Sea" to describe the body of water lying between the country and Korea, throwing cold water on expectations of improved Seoul-Tokyo ties amid brisk diplomacy on North Korea.

Japan's Foreign Ministry added a claim to its annual diplomatic blue book that, "The East Sea is the only name established by international law."

It also wiped out the expression that South Korea is the most important neighbor to share strategic interests in the Diplomatic Blue Paper reported to the Cabinet.
