Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Extends Contract with Captain Hong Jeong-ho

JEONBUK – Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, a prominent football club, announced on Friday the extension of the contract with their captain and seasoned defender, Hong Jeong-ho.

According to Yonhap News Agency, while the specific terms of the new agreement remain undisclosed, it is understood that Hong, aged 34, has committed to a two-year extension with the club. Hong’s journey with Jeonbuk began in 2018 through a loan from Jiangsu Suning, a Chinese football club. He then signed a permanent deal with Jeonbuk in 2020. His performance in 2021, marked by his contribution to Jeonbukā€™s fifth consecutive title in the K League 1, earned him the accolade of the most valuable player in the league. Despite Jeonbuk finishing fourth in 2023, their lowest position since 2008, Hong’s leadership and defensive skills were highlighted as key strengths for the team. Under his guidance, Jeonbuk tied with Gwangju FC for conceding the fewest goals in the league. The club, in a statement, praised Hong for being a foundational pillar both on and off the field, recognizing his skills, dedication, and loyalty to the team.
