Seoul: The Korean Empire embarked on a significant infrastructure project in 1906, marking the commencement of construction for its first paved road, known as "sinjangno" or "newly built road," stretching 30 kilometers between Jeonju and Gunsan in North Jeolla Province. This development replaced the previously meandering rural byways with a more direct route.
