SEOUL, KT Corp., South Korea's second-largest mobile carrier, said Tuesday that it plans to showcase high-end fifth-generation (5G) technology during the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2018.
The South Korean company said it will operate a booth along with the Global System for Mobile Communications, an association that supports mobile operators, during the electronics fair that will kick off Wednesday for a three-day run.
KT will demonstrate its 5G wireless technology in self-driving cars, as well as the latest 5G-linked platform that measures fine dust called the GIGA IoT Air Map.
The company has been stepping up efforts to expedite the commercialization of 5G technology, currently slated to start next March.
KT said it is the only local mobile carrier that will participate in the fair, with its main rivals in its home market, SK Telecom Co. and LG Uplus Inc., to be absent from the gathering.
