KT Wiz Infielder Park Kyung-su Faces Former Team in Korean Series

SEOUL - KT Wiz infielder Park Kyung-su is set to play in his second Korean Series, but this time, it holds a special significance as he faces his former team, the LG Twins. Park, who was drafted by the Twins in 2002 and spent 12 years with them without a championship title, moved to the Wiz in 2015. His contribution was pivotal in leading the Wiz to their first championship in 2021, where he was named the Korean Series MVP for his exceptional performance at second base.

According to Yonhap News Agency, who spoke during the Korean Series media day press conference at Jamsil Baseball Stadium on Nov. 6, 2023, his journey has been filled with highs and lows. Despite being a promising infield prospect, Park's career with the Twins didn't turn out as expected, leaving him with a sense of unfulfillment. "I had a lot of opportunities to prove myself, but I couldn't get it done," he shared, expressing remorse to LG fans.

The upcoming series is more than just a game for Park; it's a reunion with former teammates, many of whom are still with the Twins. The match-up is anticipated to be highly competitive, as the Twins led the regular season while the Wiz made a remarkable comeback from last place to finish second. Former Twins teammates Oh Ji-hwan and Im Chan-kyu acknowledged Park's impact, looking forward to competing against him in the series.

Park Kyung-su is also on a mission to help his teammate and friend, Park Byung-ho, clinch a championship ring. Park Byung-ho, a renowned slugger, has yet to win a title despite two Korean Series appearances. The two Parks, who played together in high school and briefly with the Twins, share a bond beyond the field.

Despite suffering from an adductor injury, Park Kyung-su remains optimistic about the championship series. He praised the Twins for their strength and expressed his desire for a thrilling seven-game series to delight the fans. The match-up between Park and his former team adds a layer of excitement and nostalgia to the Korean Series, as both sides strive for the ultimate victory.
