Changwon: Samsung Lions slugger Lewin Diaz set a record for the most RBIs by a foreign player in a South Korean baseball season Thursday. Diaz pushed his RBI total to 142 with a three-run home run against Lim Jung-ho of the NC Dinos in the top of the fourth inning of the clubs’ Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) regular-season game at Changwon NC Park, 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, with the big blast, Diaz surpassed the previous record of 140 RBIs, set by then Dinos infielder Eric Thames in 2015. It was Diaz’s 48th home run of this campaign, putting him in a tie with ex-Lions star Yamaico Navarro for the most home runs by a foreign player in a KBO season. Navarro launched 48 dingers in 140 games for the Lions in 2015.
The Lions went on to beat the Dinos 9-5. Diaz is leading the KBO in both home runs and RBIs so far in 2025. He is two homers away from becoming the fourth player in KBO history to hit 50 homers in a season. The Lions have nine games left in the season.
