SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- A new 10,000-ton logistical support ship will be delivered to the Navy on Friday, the state defense procurement agency said, potentially raising the country's capability to conduct long-endurance maritime operations.

The delivery of the AOE-II fast combat support ship, named Soyang, will take place at a shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., in Ulsan, 410 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said.

The 190-meter vessel capable of carrying 140 sailors is designed to provide ammunition, oil and other logistical support materials to naval ships.

The Soyang is set to enter service late this year after Navy personnel receive training on how to operate it. The ship launching ceremony was held in November 2016, 16 months after its construction began.
