North korea: North Korea's Cabinet held a plenary meeting of its party committee to advance decisions reached at the recent party congress, state media said Thursday. The Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Committee of the Cabinet convened the meeting, presided over by Premier Pak Thae-song, to move forward decisions from the ninth party congress and a subsequent party central committee meeting, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the committee, an organ of the WPK established within the Cabinet, handles personnel and organizational affairs while overseeing the implementation of party policies. The meeting is part of follow-up steps to the weeklong party congress last month, the first in five years, where North Korea outlined key policy goals for the next five years.
The KCNA indicated that the meeting discussed and approved measures to implement new goals proposed at the ninth party congress. Party secretary Ri Yong-sik, who attended the session, urged party organs to make progress in each sector by strengthening party and political leadership in projects aimed at enhancing economic development and people's livelihoods.
