N. Korea’s Kim and China’s Xi Hold Summit in Pyongyang, Reaffirm Bilateral Ties

Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping conducted summit talks in Pyongyang on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to strong bilateral exchanges and ties, as reported by China's state media.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting occurred during Xi's two-day state visit to Pyongyang, marking his first visit to China's traditional ally in nearly seven years. Xi emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Chinese party and government to safeguard the shared interests of both countries and maintain a favorable strategic environment, irrespective of changes in the international situation. This statement was reported by China's Xinhua News Agency.

Xi highlighted the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges and building on the foundation of political mutual trust. He also emphasized the need for stronger coordination in diplomacy, law enforcement, and the military, asserting that both countries should remain steadfast in defending each other's sovereignty, security, and development interests. Xi reiterated China's readiness to collaborate with Kim to strategically guide bilateral relations and enhance their development.

The report further noted that Kim regarded the strengthening of North Korea-China ties as a top strategic priority.
