New Leader of South Korea’s Ruling Party Pledges Greater Public Engagement


SEOUL — The newly elected leader of South Korea’s ruling People Power Party (PPP), Han Dong-hoon, embarked on his first public activity Wednesday by visiting the Seoul National Cemetery, pledging to foster a closer connection with the populace. Accompanied by members of the party’s Supreme Council, Han paid tribute at the cemetery located in the southern Dongjak Ward.



According to Yonhap News Agency, his leadership will focus on active listening, detailed explanations, and persuasive dialogue to engage and unite the public. The new party head and other top officials also participated in a dinner hosted by President Yoon Suk Yeol later in the day.



Han was elected head of the PPP on Tuesday, capturing 62.8 percent of the votes in a contest that included former Land Minister Won Hee-ryong and veteran lawmakers Rep. Na Kyung-won and Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun.
