North Korean and Vietnamese Foreign Ministers Pledge to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

Pyongyang: North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and her Vietnamese counterpart, Le Hoai Trung, have agreed to deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in multiple fields, as reported by Pyongyang's state media on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting between the two foreign ministers took place in Pyongyang, where they discussed a broad spectrum of international and regional issues. Trung, serving as a special envoy for Vietnamese President To Lam, began his visit to North Korea on Tuesday.

During the discussions, Choe expressed North Korea's desire to strengthen ties with Vietnam, referencing the outcomes of the summit talks between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Vietnam's President Lam that occurred in Pyongyang in October of the previous year.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that both ministers "agreed to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in various areas and strengthen strategic communication as well as mutual support and cooperation between external policy organs of the two countries."

In a separate meeting at the Pyongyang Assembly Hall, Kim Song-nam, secretary of the Workers' Party's central committee and head of its international affairs department, also engaged with Trung. They committed to enhancing party-to-party exchanges and cooperation, acknowledging the elevated relationship status achieved following the last summit.

President Lam's visit to Pyongyang was significant, marking the first visit by a Vietnamese top leader to North Korea in 18 years, as he attended the 80th founding anniversary celebrations of North Korea's ruling party.
