SEOUL, More than 15 percent of South Korea's elementary and secondary school students suffer from digital addiction, a government survey indicated Friday.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family surveyed 1.29 million students in March and April.
The results showed that 196,337 youngsters, or 15.2 percent, are excessively dependent on either the Internet or smartphones, up from 14.3 percent of 2017. Of them, 64,924 are addicted to both.
The increase in addiction was higher among elementary students and girls.
The survey polled fourth graders at elementary schools, first graders at middle schools and first graders at high schools.
