POSCO Restarts Operations at Pohang Steel Factory Following Fire
Pohang, South Korea – POSCO, South Korea’s largest steelmaker, has announced the resumption of operations at its key furnaces in Pohang’s major steel manufacturing complex following a temporary suspension due to a fire.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The fire, which began around 7 a.m. the previous day near a blast furnace at the Pohang steelworks, located 262 kilometers southeast of Seoul, was extinguished after about two hours. There were no reported casualties. The incident led to a blackout and the subsequent temporary suspension of several mills. According to company officials, the No. 2 and No. 3 furnaces resumed operations starting at 2 p.m., and the No. 4 furnace was scheduled to be put back into operation later that day after some repair work and a safety check. The steelmaking and hot rolling mills also resumed operations in the afternoon. POSCO has assured that there will be no significant impact on production due to the incident.
