Seoul: In a significant move, President Yoon Suk Yeol named a new industry minister in a recent Cabinet reshuffle. The announcement replaces the country’s industry chief, who had been in the post for only three months.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun has been nominated as the new minister of trade, industry, and energy. This nomination comes two weeks after President Yoon implemented a partial Cabinet reshuffle, affecting six Cabinet positions. Ahn, noted for his expertise in international trade and practical experience, is expected to enhance South Korea’s trade capabilities and innovate industrial regulations. Ahn’s appointment follows the tenure of Bang Moon-kyu, who assumed the position in September and is anticipated to run in the upcoming general elections. Previously, Ahn served as an advisor in the realms of international trade and commerce and was the first trade minister under the Yoon administration, handling critical issues including the diversification of supply chains and the United States’ Inflation Reduction Act.
