Seoul — President Yoon Suk Yeol is set to make a five-day trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar later this week, according to an announcement from his office on Thursday. Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo elaborated that Yoon will first visit Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from Saturday to Tuesday, and then proceed to Doha, Qatar, from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Yonhap News Agency reported that in Riyadh, President Yoon will engage in a summit with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. Similarly, in Doha, Yoon will hold talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Kim Tae-hyo indicated that discussions during these summits are expected to address the security situation in the Middle East, in light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The President will also participate in multiple business events in both countries and is scheduled to return to South Korea early next Thursday. Notably, Yoon will be the first South Korean President to undertake state visits to either Saudi Arabia or Qatar. First lady Kim Keon Hee will accompany the President on this diplomatic journey.
