Presidential Office Convenes Emergency Meeting on U.S. Tariff Policy

Seoul: The presidential office on Sunday conducted an emergency response meeting to address the implications of Washington’s recent tariff policy. This meeting followed a bilateral trade ministerial discussion held the previous day.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Yong-beom, the presidential chief of staff for policy, and National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac co-chaired the meeting. They were joined by key figures, including finance, foreign, and trade ministers, as reported by the presidential office.

The necessity for this meeting arose after Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan engaged in talks with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in the United States on Saturday, focusing on tariff-related issues. During the emergency meeting, Minister Kim shared insights from his discussion with Secretary Lutnick, and the participants explored strategies to navigate the tariff negotiations based on these discussions.

The presidential office emphasized that the government remains committed to ongoing negotiations with the United States, with the primary goal of prioritizing the country’s interests in these tariff discussions.
