Seoul (dpa) – Pyongyang denied Friday that it was responsible for
landmines that exploded on the South Korean side of the Demilitarized
Zone, a media report said.

The three landmines detonated on August 4, injuring two South Korean
soldiers carrying out a routine patrol.

Seoul blamed Pyongyang for the blasts.

It did “not make sense” for North Korea to plant the landmines,
Pyongyang’s National Defence Commission said, the Yonhap News Agency
reported.

Pyongyang demanded that Seoul provide proof following a South Korean
statement this week that the North was responsible.

The United Nations Command also blamed North Korea, saying it had
placed “wooden box land mines along a known […] patrol route” used
by the South’s troops.
