Remains of Two Thai Veterans of Korean War to Be Buried in Busan

Busan: The remains of two Thai veterans who participated in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 will be interred at the U.N. Memorial Cemetery in the southeastern city of Busan, as announced by the veterans ministry on Wednesday. According to Yonhap News Agency, the veterans, Manoch Pummaneekorn and Narong Kae Yeamniyom, will have their remains buried at the cemetery located approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The repatriation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at Incheon International Airport, situated west of Seoul. This event will be attended by Veterans Minister Kwon Oh-eul, the leading Thai diplomat in South Korea, and surviving family members of the veterans. Following the ceremony, the remains will be taken to Seoul National Cemetery before their final transfer to Busan for burial. The Thai Embassy in Seoul is expected to host the burial ceremony on Friday afternoon. Pummaneekorn, who served as a petty officer in the Royal Thai Navy, was involved in strike operations on a frigate between October 1950 and July 1951. Yeamniyom, who held the rank of Army private, was engaged in battles near the 38th parallel and participated in operations related to the retreat of U.N. forces from North Korea in December 1950.
