ROK, Lithuania pledge to expand bilateral cooperation in arms industry

The Republic of Korea (ROK) and Lithuania have pledged to expand their bilateral cooperation in the area of the arms industry. On the morning of September 21, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement that Vice Minister Shin Beom-chul and Lithuanian vice minister for defense budget and acquisition Vilius Semeska discussed the issue at their bilateral talks at the main building of the ministry in Yongsan, Seoul.

The talks were conducted on the sidelines of Semeska’s participation in the ‘Defense Expo Korea 2022 (DX KOREA 2022).’ The two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area of the arms industry on the basis of the amicable relations that have been maintained since ROK-Lithuania diplomatic relations were established in 1991.

“The ROK’s excellent arms industry capabilities will contribute to Lithuania’s force improvement project, which Lithuania has been focusing on in order to defend the country,” Shin said. In response, Semeska expressed his expectations related to expanding bilateral cooperation in the area of the arms industry, saying that “I highly appreciate the ROK’s arms industry capabilities, which were confirmed by the Army’s maneuver and firepower demonstration held on the occasion of the DX KOREA 2022.” The two sides shared the view that bilateral cooperation in the area of the arms industry can serve as a facilitator in building trust and developing defense cooperation between the two countries, and agreed to strengthen communication to further cement the bilateral cooperation in the area of the arms industry.
