Seoul: The ruling Democratic Party (DP) and the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) have agreed to convene a plenary session of the National Assembly later this month to address a series of pending bills aimed at enhancing citizens’ livelihoods. The agreement was finalized during a meeting led by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, with participation from floor leaders and deputy floor leaders of both parties.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision was announced by Rep. Moon Jin-seog, the DP’s deputy floor leader, who stated that the plenary session is scheduled for 4 p.m. on October 26. The session will focus on passing 70 bills that have already been agreed upon by both parties. Despite this progress, the parties have not reached a consensus on five additional bills, which will necessitate further deliberations before being presented for a vote, as mentioned by PPP deputy floor leader Yoo Sang-bum.
The meeting also saw the PPP proposing parliamentary investigations into two recent incidents: a data center fire at the National Information Resources Service and a plane crash at Muan International Airport. Initially, the DP had suggested holding the plenary meeting on October 15, but the PPP opposed this due to the ongoing parliamentary audit. Ultimately, both parties settled on October 26, a Sunday, as the date for the session.
