SEOUL-- South Korea's top diplomat met with the head of the foreign affairs committee of the National People's Congress of China on Wednesday and discussed bilateral ties and other issues of mutual concern, the foreign ministry in Seoul said the same day.

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a luncheon meeting with Fu Ying in Beijing at which the two agreed that the parliamentary exchanges between the countries have played a role in developing stable relations. They shared a view that such exchanges should be further bolstered, according to the ministry.

Fu served as China's deputy nuclear negotiator in the long-suspended six-party talks aimed at denuclearizing North Korea. She is also known as an expert on issues related to the Korean Peninsula.

Kang is in Beijing on a three-day visit that started Tuesday. She is to have a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi later in the day. It marks her first trip to China since taking office in June.
