S.Korea’s Foreign Debt Hits Record High In Q3

SEOUL – South Korea’s foreign debt hit a new record high in the third quarter, due to an expanded long-term liability, central bank data showed today.

Foreign debt reached the highest 610.8 billion U.S. dollars at the end of Sept, up 6.6 billion dollars from three months earlier, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

The ratio of short-term foreign debt to the total external liability came in at 26.9 percent at the end of Sept, down 2.5 percentage points from three months earlier.
