ASAN – Samsung Display Co. has initiated the construction of its new 8.6-generation OLED production line, marking a significant step in its strategy to reinforce its dominant status in the international flat screen industry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the new production line, named A6, will be developed by converting its existing L8 line to manufacture 8.6-generation OLED panels. These panels are designed for a variety of IT devices beyond smartphones, at its Asan facilities in the central region.
This development will position the A6 line as Samsung Display’s sixth OLED production line and, upon completion, it will stand as the world’s most advanced OLED line by generation. The company has outlined plans to install key equipment throughout this year with the objective of commencing large-scale mass production by 2026.
This ambitious project follows Samsung Display’s declaration in April of the previous year, committing an investment of 4.1 trillion won (approximately $3.1 billion) into the IT OLED sector. The investment aims to establish a production line with the capacity to produce 10 million laptop panels annually by 2026.
Market research from Omnia forecasts a rapid expansion in the global IT OLED market, anticipating growth from $2.5 billion in revenue in 2024 to $8.9 billion by 2029. This projection is based on an impressive annual growth rate of 28.6 percent, highlighting the increasing demand and potential in the IT OLED market segment.
