Police have identified an elementary school student as the suspect in an incident in which a woman died after being hit by a brick thrown from an apartment complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on Oct. 8.

The 10-year-old identified as “A” allegedly threw a brick from the rooftop of the apartment building where he is a resident as part of a gravity experiment he learned at school, Yongin Police said.

Footage from an apartment building surveillance camera showed the boy and two friends going up to the rooftop on the day of the incident.

Yongin Police are continuing their investigation into the details of the incident.

However, since the suspect is under the age of 14, he is not subject to criminal prosecution.

The victim, a 55-year-old woman surnamed Park, was making a make-shift shelter for cats in an apartment building flowerbed when she was struck by the brick. She was also a resident of the building, known as a “cat lady” because she took care of stray cats in the area of the complex.

She was with another apartment resident, a 29-year-old woman, who sustained minor injuries when she was hit by debris from the brick.
