Security Adviser on Potential Trump-Kim Meeting at APEC Summit

Kuala lumpur: South Korea has not received any information regarding a potential meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. However, the country is making preparations in case such a meeting occurs.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Wi, who is traveling with President Lee Jae Myung for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Malaysia, made these comments following President Trump’s announcement that he is open to meeting Kim during his visit to South Korea. Trump expressed his willingness to meet the North Korean leader if Kim wishes to do so during his South Korea visit scheduled for this week.

Wi stated to reporters in Kuala Lumpur, “The information we have is no different from what you already know. We’ve only seen the news reports as well,” indicating that the South Korean government is relying on publicly available information. Despite the lack of official details, Wi emphasized that South Korea is ready for any possible scenario that may arise.

President Trump is expected to visit South Korea on Wednesday and Thursday as part of his participation in the APEC summit, which will take place in the southeastern city of Gyeongju. The possibility of a meeting with Kim Jong-un, albeit unconfirmed, has raised significant interest and speculation.
