SEOUL: People Power Party lawmaker Rep. Bae Hyun-jin was assaulted in Seoul, resulting in a head injury, her office reported. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the Gangnam district when a pedestrian approached Bae, inquired about her identity, and subsequently struck her on the back of the head. Bae was quickly taken to Soonchunhyang University Hospital for treatment, and while she was bleeding from the head, the injury is not considered life-threatening.
According Yonhap News Agency, The suspect involved in the attack was temporarily detained by the police in Gangnam. This violent episode comes in the wake of another recent attack on a political figure, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, who was stabbed in the neck in Busan a few weeks earlier. The consecutive incidents of violence against public figures have raised concerns about their safety and security.
